Strange Talk
Coming from drastically different musical backgrounds, the two principle songwriters in Strange Talk, Gerard Sidhu and Stephen Docker seemed an unlikely pairing. Gerard’s musical past can be found behind the DJ booth, or behind synthesizers and analog drum machines crafting house and electro. Stephen’s past was something much more classical, dividing his time between playing violin for the Australian Youth Orchestra, and composing scores.
Having been friends for a long time, and upon suggesting making music together, Stephen and Gerard made the realistation that such a difference in musical backgrounds could create something original and accomplished. Then, after two months of intense writing Strange Talk, handed their EP over to the immensely talented British mixer & producer, Eliot James (Two Door Cinema Club, Bloc Party, Futureheads) to expand and hone their sound.
The first track from the EP “Climbing Walls” set the international blogosphere and music industry alight in last 2010 after they entered Triple J Unearthed. Flavourpill described them as the “star-crossed marriage of Phoenix and Passion Pit”, and Fasterlouder suggesting “they have the potential to write a dance anthem”. Following this hype, will be the first single from the EP, the track “Eskimo Boy”.
