The Growl
The Growl’s debut EP Cleaver Lever' is the end result of a recording project which began a year ago involving Cameron Avery and Clinton Oliver.
Both naive to the conventions of recording music, they embraced the experimentation and creative freedom that this brought. Over time it manifested in a truly primal sound with an industrial aesthetic.
This sound paired with Avery's distorted take on song arrangement saw The Growl became one of Perth's most exciting and promising new music acts.
Cleaver Lever was produced, recorded and engineered by Avery and Oliver at home. The EP was mastered by Brian Lucey of Magic Garden Mastering in Columbus Ohio - the same man responsible for the amazing audio fidelity on the Black Keys ‘Brothers’ album.
Cameron Avery had been the only constant member of The Growl's live show, an ever-changing list of players created different sonic performances at every show, up until late last year when the band’s line-up solidified with drummer Michael Jelinek and percussionist Sam Kuzich joining Avery and Oliver.
Featuring guitar sounds which seem to have serrated edges, two percussionists and a vocal performance littered with bold, introverted lyricism, the four have created a dark, intricate and explosive live show which has brought critical acclaim and sees them continually earning new fans.
